The Chilean born, New York based designer Pola Thomson started her eponymous womenswear and accessories collection in 2009. Having studied around the globe, from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile to Central Saint Martins and Parsons The New School of Design, Thomson has been a member of the fashion industry since 2000, having launched two influential labels in Santiago. For her Spring/Summer 12 collection, Thomson was inspired by the extraordinary event known as “Blossom Desert. ” Taking place in the Atacama desert in the north region of Chile, over 200 forms of plants species bloom, occurring only once in a generation. Thomson used the richness of this natural wonder as a starting point for the collection, and incorporated explosions of color throughout, mainly taking cues from the deep blue of the water and skies of the region.
