CHARACTERS:
William: About 30
Veronica: About 30
The Scene: A restaurant. William and Veronica sit across from one another. It is a first date. They are both dressed conservatively and seem to be on their guard. The action is slow at first, but once the lists begin the pace gets very fast very quickly; and both William and Veronica are deadly serious—they are playing to win.
WILLIAM
So . . . you’re Veronica.
VERONICA
Yes. And you’re . . . William.
WILLIAM
Um . . . Yes.
(Pause)
VERONICA
Top five over-rated movies.
WILLIAM
Forrest Gump, Dark Knight, American Beauty, Dead Poets Society, The Matrix.
VERONICA
No one thinks Dead Poets Society is a good movie.
WILLIAM
Yet it’s still over-rated. Top five breakfast cereals.
VERONICA
Grape nuts, Trix, Raisin Bran, Cheerios, Corn Flakes.
