Detroit based brother-sister trio Lightning Love, comprised of Leah Diehl, Aaron Diehl, and Ben Collins, have been at it since the age of 16. This month, with the release of their Girls Who Look Like Me EP, and with an LP to follow this Spring, they prove that growing up can be a good thing. Front girl Leah Diehl talks with LINE.

LINE: How did you come about forming Lightning Love?

Leah Diehl: Ben and I (Leah) met in our former band, Minor Planets. I started writing my own songs and was invited to play a solo show but I’m too shy to play by myself, so I asked Ben and my brother to play with me. That’s the whole thing.

LINE: How do you feel your style and sound has evolved on your forthcoming EP Girls Who Look Like Me?

LD: I was in my late teens and early 20s when I was writing our first album, so I’ve grown up a lot. You know, figuratively and literally. I’ve tried to not sing about “boys” on this one.

LINE: Has making this EP been different from your self-recorded/produced album November Birthday, that you released in 2008?

LD: It was pretty similar. We self-recorded and produced this one as well, but we’re a little better at it now.
